Story
Hard times come for all in life, with no real explanation. When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy, or to be the gateway to gratitude and joy. Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waoroni people in Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the gospel. Her second husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned the deepest lessons about God.

Publisher's Summary
Elisabeth Elliot was a young missionary in Ecuador when members of a violent Amazonian tribe savagely speared her husband, Jim, and his four colleagues. Incredibly, prayerfully, Elisabeth took her toddler daughter, snakebite kit, Bible, and journal...and lived in the jungle with the stone-age people who killed her husband. Compelled by her friendship and forgiveness, many came to faith in Jesus. This courageous, no-nonsense Christian went on to write dozens of books, host a long-running radio show, and speak at conferences all over the world. She was a pillar of coherent, committed faith; a beloved and sometimes controversial icon.
In this authorized biography, Becoming Elisabeth Elliot, best-selling author Ellen Vaughn uses Elisabeth’s private, unpublished journals, and candid interviews with her family and friends, to paint the adventures and misadventures God used to shape one of the most influential women in modern church history. It’s the story of a hilarious, sensual, brilliant, witty, self-deprecating, sensitive, radical, and surprisingly relatable person utterly submitted to doing God’s will, no matter how high the cost.
For Elisabeth, the central question was not, “How does this make me feel?” but, simply, “Is this true?” If so, then the next question was, “What do I need to do about it to obey God?”
“My life is on Thy Altar, Lord - for Thee to consume. Set the fire, Father! Bind me with cords of love to the Altar. Hold me there. Let me remember the Cross.” (Elisabeth Elliot, age 21)

Great book!
I can still here Elisabeth Elliot’s voice from her radio broadcast, “Gateway to Joy.” A voice that discipled me as a young Christian. Reading “Becoming Elisabeth Elliot” I now know so much more of what shaped her as a young Christian. For those of you who feel you’ve read EE’s books and know her well...choose this book. Surprise and wonder await surrounded by historical fact.

Very well done and encouraging
Perfect fit for the age we live in with chaos around us! Betty’s trust in a Sovereign God and His goodness brought great strength and encouragement to my soul. The author did a wonderful job in capturing her soul. I had no idea that this was Elisabeth Elliot’s hard lot in life though I’ve admired her most of my Christian life. Thank you for your hard work in portraying “a woman of like passions as we are” Eternity will tell a lot!

An excellent biography
This true story of the life of Elisabeth Elliot is written from hers and Jim Elliot's diaries and letters. Ms. Vaughn did an exceptional job! Probably the best biography I have read. You will be blessed as you read about Eisabeth's steadfast faith, and also her doubts and questions, in the midst of trials and suffering.

Much different than expected.
I enjoyed the story, which was well written. The reader, however, had many, many unnatural pauses in her reading. That was very distracting.

Very real because of diary inclusion
Love the way Ellen Vaughn writes. She has done an outstanding job of pulling many resources together to be able to write Elizabeth’s biography in an organized way for the reader. To my knowledge although Elizabeth herself wrote several books, none of this was repeated information. It is more “behind the scenes” information and much of Elizabeth’s own thought and feelings as she wrestled through what life brought her way. There were more than a few surprises. Ellen writes in such a way so that every sentence has good meaning and it keeps you coming back for more. I had a hard time putting it down. Can’t wait for the sequel.

Loved everything about this book
I loved learning about Elisabeth who I had not heard of before. I found it inspirational and it is one of the best biographies I have ever read. This author did such a wonderful job pulling together the life of Elisabeth.
I really enjoyed the narration which did not distract from the story but allowed me to really experience the ideas, thoughts and emotions of the people in the characters.

the hurt of Elisabeth Elliot
Do you really want to know the ups and downs of what it means to be a missionary and lose your beloved husband? There were chapters that I could listen to it over and over again. I laughed and I cried. This book is based on many resources coming together. It truly is a remarkable way to really get to know Elisabeth as a woman and daughter of God.

A stunning masterpiece on Elizabeth's life.
It's not often you get to read a biography with the clarity and truthfulness Ellen has. It has given me a holistic overview of this often idolised woman which is refreshing. Sound, exciting, accessible. I can't praise this enough. You will not be disappointed.
