About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Discover the gripping dark academia fantasy about the limits of truth and power from the author of The Sword of Kaigen, perfect for fans of Babel by R. F. Kuang, Leigh Bardugo's Ninth House, and V. E. Schwab.
For twenty years, Sciona has devoted every waking moment to the study of magic.
When she finally achieves her ambition to become the first woman admitted to the High Magistry at the University of Magics and Industry, she finds herself undermined at every turn. Instead of a lab assistant, she’s paired with a janitor, putting her crucial research at risk.
But Thomil wasn’t always a janitor. Once a nomadic hunter from the wild plains outside the city, he now sees a chance to understand the forces that decimated his tribe and drove him from his homeland.
Together they will uncover an ancient secret that could change the course of magic forever – if it doesn’t get them killed first.

Pick up the Audiobook if you want to be pulled into a world of Academia Magical world. ML Wang continues her tradition of creating gripping stories from the view point of few characters and in this instance, a single character.
Beautiful Story and Narration

The story was interesting and fast paced but the the USP of Wang's writing is the way she carves out the characters. They feel so real and there is an instant connection with them. I was so lost living with the characters that the book ended in a jiffy. A lot of readers have issues with the climax but I liked it. It was not bright and sunny but felt realistic. However, I want more. May be a follow-up book would quench my thirst. Not necessarily with the same characters as their arc had a definite closer but I surely would like to know what happened in this fantasy universe after the event of this book. May be another standalone novel set in Kwen.
Overall another great story by ML Wang, must read if you are looking for a good fantasy standalone. 9 out of 10. Moira Quirk's narration was Icing on the cake.
Brilliant, Wang deserves more recognition and fame
