Publisher's Summary

The marshal's name was Borden Chantry. Young, lean, rugged, he's buried a few men in this two-bit cow town - every single one killed in a fair fight. Then, one dark, grim day a mysterious gunman shot a man in cold blood. Five grisly murders later, Chantey was faced with the roughest assignment of his life - find that savage, trigger-happy hard case before he blasts apart every man in town...one by bloody one.

'Borden Chantry' vs. 'Iron Marshal'

"Iron Marshal" engaged me, whereas "Borden Chantry" felt phoned in and formulaic. Among LL's westerns, I place the "Iron Marshal" audiobook in top 25%, and "Borden Chantry" in bottom third.

First "Iron Marshal": Do not be off-put by the derby hat on the cover, nor by the strong Irish accent of the protagonist - "Iron Marshal" is a classic Western. It has its share of good action sequences, but it also contains a clear cast of characters, an elegant whodunnit, and a character's ostracism reminiscent of the movie "High Noon." We find ourselves really liking our guy. I have read practically every L'Amour. "Iron Marshal" will go down as a favorite.

"Borden Chantry" seems to be L'Amour's effort at writing a whodunnit. But the mystery in "Iron Marshal" is better drawn, and so are the other facets. And Marshal's narrator is better than Chantry's.

rambling

One of the more rambling of his stories, lacking the follow he usually displays.
not Singers best performance either.

You can never go wrong with Louis L'Amour!

This is one of my favorite Louis L'Amour books, and he is an awesome storyteller! Good values, easy listen, just all around entertainment, with a few good morals and some good information thrown into boot. Eric singer does a wonderful job on the narration. I could listen to him read all day long.

What a cowboy mystery!

This book kept me on the edge from the beginning. One of his best. Character development was exciting.
