Publisher's Summary
Detective fiction has never lacked devoted fans. The undying popularity of Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot vouch for that fact. In the early thirties, a detective by the name of Byomkesh Bakshi made an unobtrusive entry into the world of Bengali fiction. He preferred calling himself a satyanneshi, a seeker of truth, and within days was a household name, courtesy his cerebral skills and the exciting situations he found himself in. In the tradition of Doyle and Christie, Byomkesh is accompanied on his adventures by his friend, Ajit, slightly obtuse and the perfect foil to him.

Lovely stories, amateurish translation
Byomkesh stories are always a treat to read, and the stories included here were good. However, the translation was very amateurish, almost like a school essay. The narrator did a horrendous job of pronouncing Bengali names, and lacked the skill of voice modulation for characters, but that is not a complete deal breaker. Listen to it for the stories.

ghastly narration
why could't you choose a narrator who has grown up in the byomkesh bakshi universe! or atleast someone who knows bengali diction....pronouncing putiram with soft t! and a pompous byomkesh?! i couldn't finish it!

Nice book to start with
This was the first book from audible. Narration and story telling was good. Good to listen during commute when reading is hampered by vertigo effect.

Not as good as these stories are made out to be
Byomkesh is obviously not to be compared to Sherlock or Poirot or any of the other famous detectives in literature. His exploits are neither brimming with action nor are they full of brilliant deductions. The stories are less than ordinary, the narrator though is seemingly more excited than what the text demands... and this flaw disturbs. More importantly, the translation is incompetent as there are words and expressions that seem out of place and inappropriate. I believe a new translation just might turn the stories better in spirit, if not as much in content. - Arvind Passey - Blog: www.passey.info

Slightly Predictable stories but still very entertaining
Highly recommend this for little entertainment. It is not as thrilling as some other detective stories I have heard, but I enjoyed it overall.

Excellent narration.
I wish it was dramatised more like a old radio show, but it was great nonetheless.
