Publisher's Summary

Since the dawn of time, humans have worshipped the sun. And with good reason. Our biology is set up to work in partnership with the sun. From our sleep cycles to our immune systems and our mental health, access to sunlight is crucial for living a happy and fulfilling life. New research suggests that our sun exposure over a lifetime - even before we were born - may shape our risk of developing a range of different illnesses, from depression to diabetes.

Chasing the Sun explores the extraordinary significance of sunlight. As more of us move into light-polluted cities, spending our days in dim offices and our evenings watching brightly lit screens, we are in danger of losing something vital: our connection to the star that gave us life.

It's a loss that could have far-reaching consequences that we're only just beginning to grasp.

Informative book - lovely read

What a great read. Full of interesting and useful facts. Relevant not just to those with sleep issues but for all of us given the implications of lack of sunlight for our circadian rhythms and wellbeing/resilience. Author discusses how efficacy of medication can be influenced by when we take meds and also influence whether we have side effects. Audio version is beautifully read

Good sources and narative

This book made me welcome sunlight in my daily life like never before. I can embrace its warm touch now, not for too long of course.

Not very good

The most interesting bits are about sleep, so I rather advise Why We Sleep instead.

Absolute eye opener

This book is a real eye opener and made so much sense.
It wasn’t until I read this book that I put two and two together that I’d not had an episode of depression since I started using led colour changing lights at home.
It’s amazing how much it helped and reading this book just confirmed it all.

Incredibly interesting

I first heard the author interviewed on the 'Feel better live more' podcast and then wanted to learn more. The author reads her own book in an engaging voice and a good balance of depth but succintness is offered (no waffle or repetition that sometimes means I don't finish listening). This is a topic that needs everyone's attention - individuals as well as communities.

Who knew sunlight was so healing and powerful?

This book is outstanding, it is one of the best science books I have ever read. It is exceptionally well researched and recommended to all.
