Drug Cartels and terrorists. Explosive Action!
What made the experience of listening to Clear and Present Danger the most enjoyable?
The many twist and turns in the story and Jack Ryan unravelling all the deception.
What other book might you compare Clear and Present Danger to and why?
There is no other book of a similar type that could even compare.
Which scene was your favorite?
The Drug Cartels, the former Cuban spy and Cutter getting their comeuppance. Also the rescue of Domingo Chavez and his first meeting with John Clark.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

amazing book

could not put the book down ( or turn my phone off as the case may be)

a great story in the Clancy style, detailed and absorbing. pronunciation a bit dodgy .in places. but that's Americanisms. Recommended.

Not Great Art. Just Pretty Good Writing.
I understand this novel, when first published, landed on the NY Times B/S List and stayed there for quite awhile, I can see why.
I can also see why Clancy became an institution and how much of a Ying-Yang effect the American Political zeitgeist (sorry about the terminology) had on him and how much he must have influenced it. Considering the book was written over 30 years ago, a surprising amount of the content is still relevant and even the stuff that isn't, can be still looked at from the present without expending any psychic energy in suspending disbelief or questioning its plausible historic verisimilitude.
Clancy is, of course, unabashedly patriotic, militaristic, and will surprise no one in his predictably conservative view on the Drug War, treatment of politics and politicians. To some readers, like myself, this will be enough to prevent them from becoming starry-eyed fanboys of the author.
He writes his characters from the outside-in and therefore they lack a certain depth of characterisation and the individual idiosyncrasies that lend themselves to the reader's perception of breathing, bleeding, living people which might shift the author into the coterie of great American authors. Rather than amalgamating various personality traits into a single character, one get's the feeling of the reverse process going on in this book. This gives the impression that the many characters in this book can be condensed into a few, less than multidimensional types. Occasionally leading to confusion and difficulty in recognising one from another.
Clancy is very adept at moving an adventure story along and making it addictive. Personally, I find the technical expertise of the author very satisfying, although I would understand that this approach is not everyone's cup of tea.
I completed the over 30 hours of listening time of this production in less than a week and enjoyed it. I would certainly take the time and look forward to reading some of the author's other work.
The narrator was a competent & clear reader of the work whose strengths outweighed his weaknesses.

A few basic issues
Good story, spoilt by a couple of basic mistakes which could have been corrected in the spoken text (no point reading something blindly that is so clearly wrong). For example Dartmoor is in Devon, not Cornwall. Also the ceremony of The Keys at the Tower of London text goes “Whose keys?”, “Queen Elizabeth’s keys”....It is so obviously our royal family as it really was at the time of writing, so who is “Queen Ann”?
And please, American narrators, when covering an English voice, please don’t insult us with what you think we sound like, you seem to believe we all went to Eton ( and even that isn’t generally done well) and please, please pronounce words correctly, this narration has some horrendous (and repeated) wrong pronunciations.

From the narrator to the story, first class
The story is just brilliant, they have found a voice that fits the characters. Can’t begin to describe how much I enjoyed this . I hope you feel that way too

The 1st Tom Clancy novel I ever read.
This was the book that pooped my Tom Clancy Cherry. I have been reading and rereading them since the 80's. Clear and Present Danger I have read or listened to at least 12 times just like most every other book in the Jack Ryan and Jack Ryan Jr universe. It's a world full of wonderful characters and horrendous villains. If you haven't sampled it get on board now.

Not enough Jack Ryan
Good book but a bit disappointed 4 hours in and Jack Ryan’s barely mentioned. I understand it’s based on two characters but would think a series dedicated to Jack Ryan would have more of him at the beginning.

Another of Clancy’s Captivating Books
A great Audio book once again from the Master Clancy. I always admire his incredible attention to detail. One point about “Clear and Present Danger” was it was not quite as Nail Biting as many of Tom Clancy’s other works. However still a very worthwhile read.

I really enjoyed this book. Tom Clancy is a fantastic author. The level of details is amazing and Michael Pritchard is great as a narrator. The last five chapters were almost impossible to stop listening to
