Anne Murphy is the smart young new girl at a top Philadelphia law firm. She leaves town for the 4th July weekend to prepare for a trial, but when she buys her morning paper, her own photo is all over the front page with the headline 'Lawyer Murdered'.
Anne sets out to find her supposed killer, playing dead in order to stay alive. She tries to go it alone, but quickly realises that she'll have to trust people she barely knows - colleagues who detest her, a homicide squad that wants her out of the way, and a new love who inconveniently happens to be opposing counsel.

I have only skimmed this series but all the stories stand alone. This one has a very likeable protagonist and a truly great hook.
