Pierce, known for her fantasy series portraying strong, young female characters, has created another intriguing person in Daja; the young performer who plays her creates a believable, likable Daja who is by turns wistful and belligerent. Author Pierce narrates this story along with a cast of 16, all well suited to their characters. This approach lends a depth to the story and will assure Pierce fans that it is read the way the writer imagined it.
