Im Jahr 1894 hat der technikbegeisterte Buchliebhaber, Verleger und Dandy Octave Uzanne, gemeinsam mit dem Illustrator Albert Robida, in einer auf 30 Exemplare limitierten Luxusausgabe seine Geschichten für Bibliophile veröffentlicht. Darin enthalten findet sich unter dem tollkühnen Titel Das Ende der Bücher eine umwerfend genaue Medientechnik-Prophezeiung. Uzanne sieht eine Miniaturisierung der Wachswalzen zur Sprachaufzeichnung, kleine Batteriespeicher und mobile "Hörschläuche" voraus. Autoren werden zu "Storygraphen", die mitunter Schauspieler engagieren, ihre Werke gekonnt vorzutragen.
