Das uralte Volk ist eine Kurzgeschichte von H. P. Lovecraft, die erstmals 1940 veröffentlicht worden ist. Sie handelt von einer römischen Kohorte, die in einem Gebirge auf der iberischen Halbinsel dem Grauen zum Opfer fällt.

Bei der Erzählung handelt es sich um einen Brief vom 3. November 1927, der an einen gewissen Melmoth adressiert ist und von einem C. Iulius Verus Maximinus aus Providence unterzeichnet ist. Der Verfasser, der ein Liebhaber des antiken Roms ist, berichtet hier von einem Traum, der sich zur Zeit des antiken Roms abspielt.
