Story
In 1707, when Emperor Aurangzeb went to his grave, the Mughal empire began to crack into a hundred fractured pieces. It was the lure of the Deccan that drained this conqueror’s energies, putting him on a course of collision with his most threatening adversaries. Story
It is a popular belief that the Ramayana is idealistic while the Mahabharata is realistic. Yet these two epics have identical building blocks, identical themes and identical history. In this groundbreaking book, Devdutt Pattanaik, India’s most popular mythologist, explores the similarities and dissimilarities between the two epics in a ‘playful analysis’. Whether it is the family structure, forest exile or war, the comparison between the two epics proves a startling point - the Mahabharata is in fact a reaction to the events in the Ramayana.

Neela Scarf can easily be called an interesting mix of stories - some very urban, and some with a very strong rural flavour. Her characters are diverse - from a retired air force officer in "Mukti" to a teacher in "Kuch Yun hona Uska"; from a Dalit woman whose job is to serve high and might in "Bisesar Bo ki Premika" to an aimless housewife in "Marj Zindagi Ilaaj Zindagi", they take the listeners to worlds and spaces that are completely different from one another.

Publisher's Summary
This is the story of a countryside boy, Rajat, who, fresh out of village schools, comes to the happening capital city of Lucknow for his higher education. High aspirations to become an officer, raw manners and slight desi pan in his etiquettes, he struggles his way out in the polished surroundings of college. The city and college start to absorb him, and he tries to adapt to the ways of the city.
In a turn of events, he meets a refined, classy girl and two boys of the opposite nature. Their friendship pans well, and some interesting things start to happen. With the passing of time and a mix of pressure for a career, the girl turning practical and a misundertstanding with the friends leads their ways apart. Then, the boy realises that this world is not so fair, and unless he proves himself, he will always be an outsider, ‘a dehati ladka’ for the city. In his struggle, a new girl supports him, and he goes on to become an income tax officer for the government of India. But has the first girl moved on, or is she still practical? Will the misunderstanding give way to their reunion?
