England hat einen Superhelden - Birdboy. Ausgerechnet auf dem Maidenfielder Kirchturm hat er seine Premiere, was natürlich sofort Inspektor McLeod auf den Plan ruft. Schnell wird klar, dass Birdboy eigentlich Peter Green heißt und scheinbar den Verstand verloren hat. Als der junge Mann schließlich springt und alle die Luft anhalten, geschieht das unfassbare - er verschwindet spurlos. Aber ist er auch tatsächlich geflogen? Als dann auch noch unerwartet Pressevertreter auftauchen, wird der Inspektor noch misstrauischer. Selbstverständlich mischt auch Miss Rutherford wieder mit und selbst Inspektor Garner, aus dem benachbarten Stepford, wird mit hineingezogen.
