Im Jahre 1532, als die Türken neuerlich Wien belagern wollten, geschah es, dass sich einige der Horden in der Gegend des Neusiedler Sees herumtrieben. Eine Reiterschar gelangte auch nach Purbach. Als die Purbacher das Herannahen der Türken erfuhren, verbargen sie all ihr Hab und Gut und flüchteten in das nahe Leithagebirge, wo sie sichere Schlupfwinkel wussten. Die Türken fanden daher die Gemeinde ganz entvölkert. Da durchsuchten sie denn die Häuser und entdeckten manchen guten Bissen.
