In der weiten Ebene von Kansas lebt Dorothe mit ihrem Onkel Henry und Tante Emmi, die das Waisenkind liebevoll aufgenommen haben. Doch als sie die Türe wieder öffnet steht Dorothe in einem herrlichen Blumengarten und erfährt, dass sie und Bodo im Lande Oz stehen, das von der bösen Osthexe beherrscht wird. Wie gut, dass Dorothe gleich Hilfe von der guten Nordhexe bekommt.
