Rosalie hat den kranken Soldaten Francoeur gepflegt und ihn gegen den Willen ihrer Mutter geheiratet. Daraufhin hat ihre Mutter ihn verflucht. Nach der Geburt ihres gemeinsamen Kindes geht der Fluch als schreckliches Benehmen auf Francoeur über. Mithilfe des Grafen Dürand gelingt es Rosalie ihren Mann auf das "Fort Ratonneau" überzusetzen, wo das Benehmen keinem auffällt. Schließlich platzt seine Wunde am Kopf auf und der Francoeur wird von seinem Fluch erlöst.
