Die Ruhe kehrt nur für kurze Zeit in das altehrwürdige Morrisey-Gebäude zurück, denn kurz nach dem Lösen ihres ersten Mordfalls findet Meg Dawson eine geheime Treppe im Keller, die in die berüchtigte Unterstadt Seattles führt. Dort findet sie nicht nur eine Leiche, sondern gleich zwei. Auch wenn die beiden Todesfälle durch ein ganzes Jahrhundert getrennt sind, haben die Opfer mehr gemeinsam, als Meg ahnt. Ohne Lauries Hilfe, der beruflich nach Japan ziehen musste, versucht Meg mit ihrer Geisterfreundin Ripley die Fälle zu lösen. Dabei dringen sie immer tiefer in die Unterwelt vor und befindet sich bald selbst in Lebensgefahr. Wird es Meg auch dieses Mal gelingen, heil aus der Sache hervorzugehen?
