Rated by an 8 year old: 'Awesome Gift, Nana.'
Grandaughter says: "I like to listen to the books at night when I am going asleep and when I clean my room or just listen. When Mom and Nana are listening to their books I was bored. Now we all listen to audio books that Nana calls "Books on Tape". Shes silly because there isn't tape. She gave me her iPhone without the phone but it's cool. Thank You."
We have several Magic Tree House paper books that are frequently read to my grand daughter. When I saw, in December 2012, that Audible was offering these books for less than 2 dollars each I purchased all of them as grand daughters holiday present.
I had an older gen. iPhone which I'd turned into, basically, an iPod for grand daughter and added all 50 books to the phone.
I love listening to books, her mom loves listening to books, and now grand daughter is hooked. Though we still read to her and she to us, she loves putting a Magic Tree House story on while she cleans her room or even while she does homework some times-the little kid can multi task too. We also play it in the car, though she'd rather have her headphones on and listen to stories by herself.
I recommend this series of books for 7+ year olds who are ready to listen alone and who have the skills to work an MP3 type player...or do as I did and turn that old phone into an MP3player of some kind.
I have also downloaded games that challenge her and math and spelling games she can do herself. Face it...kids her age are the second generation of computer geek nerd types and they need to be challenged by their tech.
Magic Tree House series is a wonderful place to start...and thanks, Audible, for this affordable special.

Magic Tree House #1 Dinosaurs Before Dark
My kindergartners loved listening to this serial! We've listened to it twice and now I just purchased more titles that would be fun for them to enjoy such as Afternoon in the Amazons because we are learning about the rainforest and respective animals found there. Also, I just purchased Vacation Under the Volcano because I have another child in the class who is very interested in volcanoes. I'm glad there are many titles from which I can choose, so there are plenty of stories for the children to listen to for the rest of the year---about 4.5 weeks left of school.

Wonderful First Fantasy Experience For The Young
These are the first chapter books I read to my children, and this one was their favorite. Now, I've downloaded it for my granddaughter. Educational, yet often a brand new genre for young people age 5 and up. This series never fails to capture their imagination and take them to a different place and time.

Older woman a poor choice for narrator
This book is a good premise for young kids, but it needs either great art or a great vocal performance. On Audible, it had to be the latter, and it was sorely lacking. Older woman was poorly suited to do the kids' voices, and sound effects and music were lackin, also.
