About this listen

Actor Singer Painter Author.

Now (some decades and many disasters later) a single mother suffering the crippling effects of “Aphallatosis” a rare mental disorder arising from the lack of sex, in frantic search of the happily ever after, Suchitra instead finds herself being pushed in all the wrong direction by shrewd shrinks, horny canines, pushy gal pals, & men who are either unsuitable, unwilling or just plain terrified. And, Aiyo, what will Amma say?

Wicked irrepressibly funny and over the top, yet vulnerable and dark, Drama Queen will make you laugh, cry and look at the modern Indian woman in a whole new light.

What really came to mind when I heard the, "Audible", version of Drama Queen, was that the English , the way it's been written, made me crack up all over again. Simply superb! The nuances, the humour, the subtle hints of pathos the characters her mom, shrink, Pankaj and the rest, definitely bring out the life of the central character, Suchitra. The music was seriously very good, seeming light, entertaining and at the same time beautifully, sung composed. Must say definitely, I just didn't feel it was for an hour and ten minutes. It was so easy to tune into and listen Simply loved it, from start to the end.

Unfiltered, honest, and straight from the heart… truly powerful! I truly enjoyed every second of it!

My building society ladies would never admit to listening to something this honest but they should. Suchitra talks about everything we whisper about - failed marriages, money troubles, dating after 40. The musical bits flow like natural conversation, very melodious. Feels like finally hearing someone say what we're all thinking but too scared to voice. Shared earphones with sister-in-law during our evening walk and we both ended up crying-laughing. Revolutionary aunty content.

Neighbourhood Aunty content but super cool

Listening to it was as much or perhaps more fun than reading the book some years ago. It brought the book back to life again and had me in splits again & again !
A good dose of dopamine, serotonin & oxytocin - all the “happy hormones” ! Don’t miss it .

Non stop fun ! A great combination of hilarious situations, responses & reactions !

Started this during Mumbai's first heavy downpour. Suchitras emotional storm matched the literal storms outside. The vulnerability in her voice was both funny and tear inducing. Unpretentious. The singing parts are the highlights. Go for it

Monsoon mood
