About this listen

A modern classic, Einstein's Dreams is a fictional collage of stories dreamed by Albert Einstein in 1905, when he worked in a patent office in Switzerland. As the defiant but sensitive young genius is creating his theory of relativity, a new conception of time, he imagines many possible worlds. In one, time is circular, and people are fated to repeat their triumphs and failures over and over. In another, there is a place where time stands still, visited by lovers and parents clinging to their children. In another, time is a nightingale, sometimes trapped by a bell jar.

Translated into 30 languages, Einstein's Dreams has inspired playwrights, dancers, musicians, and painters all over the world. In poetic vignettes it explores the connections between science and art, the process of creativity, and ultimately the fragility of human existence.

Each chapter was small and digestible, but was beautifully written and was deeply intriguing. Great narration! Must read.

Concise, yet vivid

At first glance the title of the book sets a certain premise which can be misleading. But, only when one does read it cover to cover, the realisation of what this book was about begins to unfold.
Its not about explaining what Einstein saw/dreamt/wondered when he came up with relativity. Its about confronting human desires, hopes, dreams, fantasies and our worst fears and anxieties. Its an existential philosophy book where the author attempts to hold your hand and confront the dogmas that shackle humanity. Its not aboutalternate realities. Its about the premise of eternal heaven and hell, ysken to their logical conclusion.

This book is not “science” fiction

Wow! What a listen! Mind blown away, seriously!

Such a great collection of short stories, each with different perspectives of time and how time affects the characters in each stories, differently. I mean this is simply brilliant!

This is such a treasure trove that you can spew infinite number of Sci-Fi stories, referring to any of the short stories. Just those concepts! And considering that this was written in 1991, I have to say that it was definitely well ahead of its time, with the concepts that the author has presented here.

Must read!
