A poignant, feel-good debut about a man who gives a stranger a harp and inadvertently gives them both a second chance at life....

Meet Ellie. She's perfectly happy living a quiet life with her husband, Clive. (Well, she does sometimes wonder about the way he talks to her and about all the things she hasn't achieved yet. But she's happy enough.)

Meet Dan. He's definitely content - content with his predictable, ordered existence, making harps in his isolated barn on Exmoor. Content being on his own, far away from other people and - crucially - far away from any risk of surprises.

What Ellie and Dan don't know yet is that a chance encounter is about to change all of this....

Beautiful. Moving. Poignant.

Loved the story and loved the narrators, especially the man who narrated Dan. Highly recommended

Left me very unsettled

This is an easy to listen story in terms of construction. However I was left feeling very uneasy about the storyline. The book deals with very serious issues. It is entirely the author’s choice how to write their story but to not make a very dangerous character accountable for their actions under the law sends totally the wrong message . I think it was an important opportunity missed. I really do not like to write negative comments but the ending of the book left me very disturbed.

Great book

Had me gripped from the start. Only thing that spoiled it was the rather wooden performance by the female narrator, but don’t let that put you off

pleasant but predictable

I hoped for more out of the storyline but it became too predictable. The performances were good although Dan's portrayal was a tad wearing. An easy read.

Heart warming

Highly recommend this book. It’s predictable from page 1 but it’s about the characters not the plot and I loved it.
