In his sophomore year of college, Mark Zuckerberg created a simple website to serve as a campus social network. The site caught on like wildfire, and soon students nationwide were on Facebook.

Today, Facebook is nearly unrecognisable from Zuckerberg's first, modest iteration. It has grown into a tech giant, the largest social media platform and one of the most gargantuan companies in the world, with a valuation of more than $576 billion and almost 3 billion users. There is no denying the power and omnipresence of Facebook in American daily life. And in light of recent controversies surrounding election-influencing 'fake news' accounts, the handling of its users' personal data and growing discontent with the actions of its founder and CEO, never has the company been more central to the national conversation.

Based on years of exclusive reporting and interviews with Facebook's key executives and employees, including Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, Steven Levy's sweeping narrative digs deep into the whole story of the company that has changed the world and reaped the consequences.

Good, but left me wanting more

The access to the company employees and Zuckerberg himself is a great thing, as we got the side of the story, we couldn’t have gotten otherwise, but it also has another side of being too forgiving. There is a lot of talk about apologies, but as history shows they don’t mean anything to Zuck and company. I was hoping for a more Super Pumped vibe, as both Facebook and Uber are horrible companies managed by evil people, but it’s not that. Also would be nice to have a more equal look on Republican vs Democrat in the elections. The whole part regarding 2016 elections is just ... bad. It sticks out in the book.

Good insight into Facebook and Zuc

This is a good book but would have been amazing with tighter editing. The story moves around a bit too often and a clearer linear narrative would have made it better but still worthwhile read to better understand Facebook and it's backstory.

Facebook needs to change

A great book, many insights into how Facebook has not really lost its way, more founds it way to where it promised not to be. Ultimately, I deleted Facebook as a result. Well worth a read!

Excellent

One of the best audio books I've listened to. Fascinating insight into Facebook and the character of it's creator. There are somewhat horrifying details towards the end of the book but this is not a salacious tabloid account, but rather a well researched narrative which spans the evolution of the company. Narration is also excellent.
