Meet Tommy Martini, the monk with an anger management problem. Since killing somebody with a single punch is not a needed talent in a monastery, he spends his time praying, meditating, and taking his anger management medicine. But his meditations are interrupted by a legacy from his uncle, a crooked priest.

Arriving in a New Age Arizona town to claim his inheritance, Brother Tommy meets a charismatic, smoking-hot cult leader who claims that women are being impregnated by alien beings while they sleep. Tommy’s own sleep is disturbed - by cartel hitmen, Mafia bill collectors, and women intrigued by his vow of chastity. He loses his anger management medicine in time to deal with the hitmen, but the women present an uphill battle.

William Kotzwinkle’s quicksilver touch has produced an effervescent piece of entertainment filled with suspense, turns you won’t see coming, and the humor for which he is famous.

Stagnant

Repetitious and trite… could have done without the hot chicks and sex scenes, but then, it has been written by a man…

Seriously, what the ????

This started so well, witty and engaging.

Then the Alien garbage started.

I'm sorry, but that was too much!

I finished the whole book, but only so I could write this review in good faith... but it's probably the"little grey men" through their "implants and transponders" that made me do it!

Prepare To Have Your Melons Twisted!

When it comes to audiobooks a narrator can make or break a book. I have abandoned countless books due to awful narration and never got to the point to find out if the story was good or bad.
If the writing of a book is mediocre, or weak a great narrator can make the book amazing! In this instance, I found both writer and narrator excellent! (If my man sounded like Chris Henry Coffey he'd be handcuffed to the bed 80% of his life!)
I like the way William Kotzwinkle thinks and how he puts his character's together and the way that they interact with one another. This is the first book of his that I've read, (well listened to) but it won't be the last!
I can't wait for book 2 because there's definitely more to glean from this eccentric cast of misfits!
I noticed that a few folk were leaving unfair reviews by saying the Alien theme was too much. Don't these people check the synopsis before they start a book? It's quite clear what themes the story is going to contain, so why not swerve it in the first place if it isn't your thing? It's tantamount to ordering Pecan Pie at a restaurant then sending it back because you hate nuts! D'oh!

This book turned out to be a hidden tesoro!

I was on a book dry spell and found a few novels by authors I hadn't read. The first was The Fissure King, by Rachel Pollack. It was a fun listen but Felonious Monk is a treasure. It could be because I'm a third generation Italian American but I think it's just due to fantastic writing and narration. The book ends in a way that there could be a follow-up novel, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Kotzwinkle will provide one.

the good made up for the bad

I got very tired of all the little gray men portions of the story, but the rest made up for it. looking for more from this author.

This Monk is all out of Bubble Gum

From the author of "Walter the Farting Dog" comes a book that seems completely out of William Kotzwinkle's wheelhouse but to me he managed to hit a homerun!
Lets get one thing straight, this is a Mans book, a macho fantasy novel where the protagonist is a big and tough bad ass with a hot temper who beats up, kills and out smarts the bad guys while he bangs and lusts after hot chicks, he evens old scores , make a bunch a cash and sort of does the right thing from time to time.

The narrator does a fine job setting the tone for this Noir drama and the book doesn't waste time with ridiculous car chases and heroics. This book is not for everyone and if your woke, go back to sleep, Tommy Martini wants nothing to do with you.

Interesting plot

I honestly enjoyed this story. It is full of action. Poor Tom can’t catch a break and is faced with trouble every where he goes. Tom was too nice for someone with anger problems. In fact, I didn’t really see his anger issues play throughout the story. Yes he is killing, but out of self defense. We even get two scenes of him in a boxing match and throughout the fight, he stresses how he does not want to hurt the fighters.
Overall, the story was very interesting.
