Finding Home in Paradise is a story of what happens when the desires of a young woman, a chef, a mystery writer, a glamorous hotel guest, and others, collide. Events unfold as perceived by three of the characters, Skye-Girl who unwittingly creates trouble for the entire community, the chef who attempts to manage the failing hotel, and the mystery writer who visits yearly to connect with a ghost. The story contains humor, irony and heartfelt connections between people navigating challenges of living on the edge. A runaway, who calls herself Skye-Girl and claims to be 21, finds herself stranded on the highway. Her life takes a twist when she lands a job at a haunted hotel in Santa Barbara, California during summer, the time of year when the most fortunate dogs wear shoes. Guests may pick rooms, except for rooms 208 and 210, with a view of the infamous plastic garden. The meals are incredible and the décor, dreadful. If guests are lucky, they may catch a glimpse of Whack, the German Shephard, bounding through the hotel hallways. COMFORT LEVEL ADVISEMENT REGARDING LANGUAGE & TOPICS: Dear booklovers of all sensitivities, this story contains a few uses of explicit language. There are brief references to drugs, wine and spirits, including ethereal spirits. The cast of characters is culturally diverse. For those who love pets, this is an animal friendly tale in which no pets die, which is not to imply that all animal friendly stories must be devoid of pet deaths.©2026 Patricia C Totton (P)2026 Patricia C Totton Ghosts Horror Literature & Fiction
