Publisher's Summary
David Baldacci's First Family is the fourth gripping New York Times best seller in the King and Maxwell series.
'When she turned the page and her gaze flickered over the date on top, it was as though the lightning outside had somehow grounded right into her. A billion volts of pain, a shriek of anguish you could actually see and feel as it pierced her.'
Camp David, USA. A birthday party turns into a nightmare when a child is snatched after the celebrations.
The first lady enlists the services of Sean King and Michelle Maxwell to bring the child home safely. But she and King share a past. Years ago he saved her then senator husband from political disaster. And this may not be all that passed between them.
With Michelle still battling her own demons, the two are pushed to the limit, with forces aligned on all sides against them - and the line between friend and foe impossible to define...or defend.
David Baldacci's smash-hit series continues with The Sixth Man and King and Maxwell.

Great story but glitches & over dramatisation
Story was great as ever but the files have loads of glitches throughout the story and the production company has seriously tried too hard with the dramatisation. Talk about overkill with the misplaced music and incorrect bullet sounds. Meh, if I didn't want to support the author I would return it. Don't waste your time, rather just read the book yourself.

Sound effects
The sound effects are unnecessary, I listen to audible books with headphones due to hearing issues. These sound effects add absolutely nothing to the presentation and take over the story meaning at times of ‘suspense’ all I can hear is the music and other effects (gunfire, cars revving). If I want sound effects, I’ll go to the cinema! I can’t comment on the book itself because I’m pretty sure I’ll have to give up on it!

Hmmm debatable
Firstly the story, as I have recently discovered Shaun and Michelle and as I'm listening to the stories in order everything from previous books is fresh in my mind. There was a few small discrepancies in the history used from the other books in this one. However ignoring that the plot was as usual excellent.
Now we come to the narration, the new narrator gave their characters a twist. Especially Michelle became a harsher person. They didn't have the depth that they have shown in the other books by the harshness of their voices.
On top of that when doing a voice of a small part person it was Fred Flintstone.
I felt conflicted throughout the book as to which character they were, I much preferred the original personas I had built in my mind.

love the King and Maxwell series
Good story with 2 lines to follow and a continuation of the explanation of Maxwell's past. think we need to let that one go now.. looking forward to the next in the series. I had quite enjoyed the dual narration in previous books but didn't find the solo narrator any less enjoyable.
