Publisher's Summary

Alexis Carter is a long way from home, and she doesn't quite understand how she got here. All she knows is that she died once, and now she's alive.

She's woken into a nightmare, trapped on a dark ship full of terrifying aliens. With their silver skin and fire-colored eyes, they look a lot like the monsters that once attacked her on Earth.

One Kordolian in particular stands out.... He's huge, he doesn't talk much, and his job is to guard her.

From what, exactly?

The voices inside her head?

Contains mature themes.

Loved this book

I was so happy to see the leading lady was a black woman. I am also a black woman and get frustrated with the lack of diversity in the scifi and fantasy genres. I think the book was good and I was sad when it ended. I can't wait for the next book to come out. I really enjoy the universe that Anna Craven has created with this series as well as the Dark world books.

Great addition to series!

I’ve been entertained by this entire series and this audiobook was just as good as all the others. The heroine is a law enforcement officer who had to leave Earth because there was a bounty on her head for killing a Cordolian of the old empire. I think to get the most out of this story, you need to listen to the whole series. The hero is assigned by General Tarik Arkadian to take care of the heroine, who has another spirit living in her head. In a previous book, the heroine had died in an attack on her way to an Earth colony. She was used as a vessel for the alien spirit who’d been living in Enki’s head. Reanimated, she’s kind of lost. The heroine and hero become very close when they travel back to the spirit’s home world to try to free the spirit. I won’t get anymore detailed. There is a happy ending! Narration was great, except I missed the voice of Tarak from previous books.

Thank you

Finally a black heroine!,,, I can’t begin to tell you how refreshing it was to have a person of color as the love interest. It was so refreshing that I actually reviewed a book, a first for me.

Top alien male/human female series

Really good installment in the series where we get to follow the stone cold warriors of the Kordolian 1st Division falling 1by1 for those quirky bold human women.
Dead but revived when the 2nd stage Tharian left Enki and migrated to Alexis, she struggles to acclimate to her current custody by Kordolians from whom she has something to fear. We get the story of Nythian’s falling for Alexis, her falling for Nythian, and the return of a Tharian Second Stage to her home planet.
Carven does a great job creating interesting stories set in the world she has created.
**Sigh** I really miss the dual narration by McLaren and Macie in the primary Dark Planet Warriors series.

Another Good Continuation

I liked the new character and look forward to seeing where the new turn of events takes the story. Like hearing about previous characters too, especially "the silent one" and "the general".

Action Packed

This is one of my favorite books in the series; would give high marks to 3 books in this series. The story was good; however, I hope there will be another book to tie up loose ends. It is amazing how the author comes up with the different scenarios for each book. The narrator did a good job, although a female would be good for Alexis. I love the main male character; he is every woman’s dream; actually all of the featured males are this way. Just love paranormal and science fiction romance stories!

This series is just boring.. I’ve tried but no

This whole series has just been slow the author just doesn’t capture the audience and we have no vested interest in the characters. Despite this being a romance there is no real chemistry been the h/H. No real conflict that makes you root for the couple. The women are just weak and one dimensional

Good but not as good as the others

For some reason I had a hard time connecting with the main female character. I’m not sure why. I wanted her to be strong but her actions don’t really back it up too much. Yes, she’s broken but maybe a bit more verbal fighting and playing harder to get with Nithian would have made it more in line with someone you are portraying as a strong female detective. It was a good story though with good build.
Abby still sounds like a muppet. The General sounds much better. Nithian and Loden traded voices since the last book. All the names of the characters in the previous series are pronounced differently so it takes a minute to figure out who they are talking about. Overall I think the narrator should have done a bit more research to be a little more consistent.

and it just keeps getting better

just when you think Anna Carven might have run out of ideas in comes fractured Souls. what a great way to open up the dark star mercenaries series into another dimension. Alexis had a pretty hard time of it but it was really well put together and action packed. Nithian of course is the gorgeous hero we all expect from a kordolian and I love the way Arouk found her way to Alexis.
this gave Alexis some depth to the story instead of having to just roll along with the kordolian problem.
J F did a great job with all his tones and inflections for different characters. now I'm at a loss for audible has not got the rest of series ready to go so I will just have to keep hoping and waiting that they release it soon. this is an awesome series and ms carven is an awesome writer I'm glad I stumbled onto her sci-fi novels and would like to read more..... just waiting

Brilliant

The third instalment in the Darkstar Mercenaries series is about Nithian and Alexis Carter and theirs is a tangled story indeed as Alexis has an unexpected passenger in her head and just to top it all off she has come back from the dead and finds herself on a Kordolian ship surrounded by soldiers who look a lot like those who attacked her on Earth. This is a story about learning to trust again and finding something extraordinary in the process. I highly recommend this audio book and the series as a whole.
