About this listen
Hear singer Sharon Jones, producer Gabriel "Bosco Mann" Roth, and rock critic Ken Tucker on this edition of Fresh Air.
Sharon Jones heads the old-school funk and soul band Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. Gabriel Roth is a producer, songwriter, and cofounder of Daptone Records, the label behind Sharon Jones and her band. He's also the band's bass player. They have a new album, their third, 100 Days, 100 Nights. They've been touring and recording since 2005. The Dap-Kings can also be heard on Amy Winehouse's album Back to Black. Jones recently was part of the cast touring with Lou Reed as part of the live production of Berlin. And she can be seen in the upcoming Denzel Washington film The Great Debaters.
Then, Ken Tucker reviews the new Britney Spears album Blackout. It's her first studio album since 2003. [Broadcast Date: November 28, 2007]
