Publisher's Summary

In this brand-new Courtney Series novel by best-selling author Wilbur Smith comes an epic story of tragedy, loss, betrayal and courage that brings the listener deep into the seething heart of the French and Indian War.

1754. Inseparable since birth and growing up in India, Theo and Connie Courtney are torn apart by the tragic death of their parents.

Theo, wracked with guilt, seeks salvation in combat and conflict, joining the British in the war against the French and Indian army. Connie, believing herself abandoned by her brother, and abused and brutalised by a series of corrupt guardians, makes her way to France, where she is welcomed into high society. Here, she once again finds herself at the mercy of vicious men, whose appetite for war and glory lead her to the frontlines of the French battlefield in North America.

As the siblings find their destinies converging once more, they realise that the vengeance and redemption they both desperately seek could cost them their lives....

Voice slowdown ruined book

In the 60's, 70's and 80's, when radio was very popular, the stations slowed down the voice of the disc jockeys to give them a throaty raspy sound. I'd bet a potful of money the producers did the same thing here. The readers voice was like sandpaper. The narrative was destroyed and in addition to being difficult to listen to, many words were unintelligible. This is not the first book I've suspected this to be the case. But by far the worst.

The story was OK. Great Wilbur Smith stuff. But so hard to get through.

A good reader can make a book come alive the producers killed this one

What A Fabulous Writer

If you haven’t read Wilbur Smith YOU NEED TO! I am so sad because I have now finished all of his series along with all but one of his novels. I’m saving that for an up coming road trip with my husband.
Mr. Smiths writing style is so very extraordinary, vivid, alive, I feel like I am a character in one of his stories his novels are so easy to melt into. I feel as though I can, smell the air, taste the salt of the sea, feel the stinging heat of the desert, touch the minerals and rocks, hike through the jungles, go on Safari, feel the splashing rain, smell the mineral iron smell of blood, ride a horse....I JUST DO NOT KNOW HOW TO EXPRESS HOW FABULOUS THESE NOVELS & SERIES ARE!
***THANK YOU Wilber Smith for sharing your stories with the world, I for one am richer for it.

Brilliance by numbers

When it comes to a Wilbur Smith historical novel, you are either in, or you are out. Very similar to a James Bond. You know what to expect as you open the first page. The male hero, the cruel villain, the beautiful loyal girl and sweeping scenery. I am a WS fan and this book is the most Wilbur Smithian of its type for some while. Loved it!!

Wilbur Smith at his best

Wilbur Smith's latest offering of the Courtney saga does not let up for a second and is an instant classic. The fantastic storyline is brought to life by Sean Barrett's suberb performance. A must not just for WS fans.

Spellbinding Historical Thriller

Wilbur Smith is my favourite author and I have read all his books . I was born in Africa so relate to his love for this amazing continent. I have always regretted that I could never find another similar author to write about India or North America. Here, Wilbur turns his mind to these two places and his description transport you back in time to these incredible destinations. One of the best books I have read . Highly recommended.
