About this listen
As winter approaches and Souls' Night draws near, the Eagle Owl Mage holds the clans in a grip of terror.
To fulfill his destiny, Torak seeks his lair in the Mountain of Ghosts. Accompanied by Renn and Wolf, Torak must defy demons and tokoroths, and find his way through the Gorge of the Hidden People. Wolf must overcome terrible grief and Renn must make an agonizing decision.
And in the final battle against the Soul-Eater, Torak will face the most heart-rending choice of all ...©2009 Michelle Paver
Critic Reviews
The finale is a climax as intense as Tolkien's fall of Mordor, with demonic dogs, fiendish one-time children, and Soul-Eaters summoned from beyond the grave.
The final part of the brilliant Chronicles of Ancient Darkness... The saga of dark versus light is told with Paver's rigourous pace and brilliant attention to the detail of the Torak's world
...the themes of friendship and sacrifice are strong, and the descriptions of hunting, tracking and living in the world of six thousand years ago are as vivid and as interesting as ever... I'm going to miss the Forest and the clans now that the series is over. The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness are aimed at younger teens but I still love them aged nearly-sixteen, and I don't think I'll outgrow them any times soon.
GHOST HUNTER is the final installment in Michelle Paver's wonderfulChronicles of Ancient Darkness series. These books should definitely be in every school library as they offer fantastic insights and terrific storytelling of a time long gone.
"Whatever the individual judges thought about fantasy before they began Ghost Hunter... they were immediately captivated by Michelle's brilliantly created world, her wonderfully dramatic story and her powerful story telling.
A literary treat for any young reader looking for something slightly different from the mass of children's releases
These books are wonderful examples of how children's books at their best are motored by brilliant, seamless plotting. There is no waste- everything is taut, clean, efficient... There is a beautifully realised sense of an organic culture depicted in these books, and good and evil are measured in relation to how much these characters respect their environment
