Hauptkommissarin Bente Brodersen ermittelt mit friesischer Sturheit auf Deutschlands nördlichster Insel.

Der alten Kirche in Keitum wird seit Jahrhunderten ein Fluch nachgesagt und als die Insel Schauplatz einer berühmten TV-Sendung wird, entdeckt die Polizei eine ermordete Nonne im Krankenhaus. Als kurz darauf der Pastor der Kirche Selbstmord begeht, wird Kriminalhauptkommissarin Brodersen mit dem Fluch von St. Severin konfrontiert. Die Spuren führen in die Vergangenheit und es scheint so, als würde der alte Fluch wieder erwacht sein. Bente muss nicht nur die Todesfälle klären, sondern auch Überzeugungsarbeit leisten, denn der Glaube an den Fluch von St. Severin ist in einigen Köpfen tief verwurzelt.
