ABOUT THIS AUDIBLE ORIGINAL

Heads Will Roll is an Audible Original from Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon and her cocreator/costar (and real-life sister) Emily Lynne. Produced by Broadway Video, this is not an audiobook - it’s a 10-episode, star-studded audio comedy that features performances from Meryl Streep, Tim Gunn, Peter Dinklage, Queer Eye’s Fab Five, and so many more.

Queen Mortuana of the Night Realm (McKinnon) and her ditsy raven minion JoJo (Lynne) receive a prophecy about a peasant uprising. Together, they must journey to find the “Shard of Acquiescence”, which will put down the rebellion and save the throne. Will their friendship survive sensitive generals, chatty sex slaves, whiny behemoths, princes with bird fetishes, and the notion of democracy?

This raunchy satire also includes the wicked talents of Andrea Martin, Carol Kane, Audra McDonald, Aidy Bryant, Alex Moffat, Heidi Gardner, Chris Redd, Steve Higgins, Bob the Drag Queen, Esther Perel, and more. So, hold on to your head, and let the bad times roll.

Please note: This content is not for kids. It is for mature audiences only. This audio comedy features sexual content, adult language and themes, and violence against peasants and hobgoblins alike. Discretion is advised.

I demand that Audible instantiate a sixth star

I knew going in that this thing would be awesome. Some comedic actors have a direct link to my funny bone: Kate McKinnon is the living embodiment of my funny bone.

But this is far from being a one woman show. Emily Lynne took me to that wow place, especially with the singing: Ah, the singing.

Clever and witty, and brought to life in vivid colours through the talented voice work of an amazing cast, and the overall audio production is superb.

Seriously Audible, I need 6 stars.

More like this please

It's like an old school radio drama for a 2019 comedy audience. Great concept. The writing is funny and the story captivating. My first experience of Emily Lynne. Does she sing professionally? She should. I'd buy that album. Can we get more celebrities doing this sort of thing? Always a delight to get new Kate and Aidy content. Cheers!

Not impressed

Lots of gibberish, not impressed at all. Had a hard time listening to the book, gave it a good faith effort, tried till chapter 9 and gave up.

I loved it enough to write my first review!

The first few minutes is kind of a shock, because it’s like nothing you’ve heard before, but don’t let that turn you off, keep listening!

It’s different, definitely, but that’s what makes it so fantastic. I wouldn’t expect anything different from the mind of Kate McKinnon (and it must be a family trait because The co-creator Emily Lynne is fantastic!) Heads will roll intertwines historic tyranny with our modern version. I can’t wait for more!

Not my thing, but it might be yours!

This audiobook is an excellent reminder that humor is subjective.

I'd like to start out by saying that there's a lot to like about this book. The voice acting is largely well done, some of the jokes are genuinely funny, and a couple of characters are so well written that they shine in every scene they're in. That said though, I found the rest of this book pretty painful to get through - I'm not a huge fan of awkward, cringey humor and this book is, for the most part, full of awkward cringey humor. I was able to make it through about 75% of the audiobook before I finally threw in the towel and requested my credit to be refunded.

If you're the sort of person that's a fan of this style of humor, I think you'll absolutely love this book - save your hard earned money/credits otherwise.

SouthPark meets The Office at Medieval Times!

You can tell the All-Star cast had a blast creating this one! In between embarrassing laugh out loud moments (elliptical neighbors at the gym were ready to commit me!) and relishing the fresh, irreverent, and witty script, you start to realize that the storyline is a satire on modern work culture — and then you can’t stop listening! Hysterical and an easy, fast listen, Heads Will Roll makes for a fun and relaxing break in the day.

Fantastic!

I wasn’t sure how this would go over because so much of comedy is the non-verbal; facial expressions, body language, etc. that in this format, you obviously can’t see. This was amazing! Kate and Emily are incredibly talented, as was the whole cast. It was laugh out loud funny the whole time. Definitely would love more of this type of comedy from this fantastic duo!

A decent diversion

This wasn't as funny as I'd hoped, perhaps a drier humor than I was anticipating. But just as I was about to get tired of the story and some repetitive themes, the story and performance picked up a bit. Clever writing and performance. Great cast of characters made it even more entertaining. I found the audio challenging, and spent a LOT of time adjusting the volume throughout, to accommodate softer voices v. louder and/or higher pitched voices.Overall a fun story with some good twists. Still laughing about the promo code "Queensdrycrotch."

Mostly funny

I liked the story and characters. It was funny at times, and the interjected "ads" really added to the humor. And although the performances were excellent, my only real complaint, was that even with the volume way up, I could not always hear the actors. I recognize that I'm driving and the road creates a certain amount of noise, but I want to be able to hear it all regardless of how I listen. 95% of it I heard easily, it was not much that I missed, but I don't want tot miss any of it. Otherwise excellent.

Love it!

SO damn funny! Took me a min to acclimate and get used to all the voices and sounds, but after a few minutes I got totally hooked. There are so many hilarious characters. I’ve never heard anything like this and can’t wait to listen to more!!!!

All stars for these all stars

This show is absolutely hilarious! It combines the SNL-style humor we know from Kate McKinnon with an all-star cast of actors to create this joyous radio play! The pleasant switches from famour stars like tim Gunn and Meryl Streep to the friends & SNL co-stars like Aidy Bryant and Alex Moffat bring the story to life even more, and Emily Lynne SHINES and manages to keep up with her sister with ease, proving herself a star in her own right. The songs are a joy as well, and I’m hoping they’ll be released on Spotify at some point in the near future.

Disappointing

Just stupid nonsense, don't waste your money. Monty Python meets Black Adder but sadly badly written so even with top actors it's rubbish!

Not for me I have to say

I had high hopes for this book on the basis of the synopsis. Sadly I only managed to make it a third of the way into the second chapter before the gratuitous vulgarity and generally unpolished dialogue wore me down to the point where I never want to hear this title ever again. Maybe I prefer subtle innuendo and craftsmanship to "in your face" coarseness/ It really isn't big or clever, just lazy, cheap and obvious writing. The actors struggled valiantly to make this listenable and entertaining but it was a shameful waste of their talents. I only hope they were paid extremely well to participate in this desperate pile of tripe.

Spat my coffee out laughing. RIP coffee.

Bizzare. Engaging. Hilarious. The comedic timing delivered by Kate Mckinnon is spot on. The writing is great, story bizzare and hilarious, the Queen makes me laugh every scene.

You won't stop laughing

This is one of the funniest audio-books I have ever listened to, it is much funnier than The Boy In The Stripped Pajamas😛.

The disclaimer should have warned you will need new underwear as you will wet yourself laughing.

My wife and I listened to this, she was crying with laughter, and as a usual husband I had no idea what was happening 😛.

When I chose an audio-book I wanted something different from TV, I found the constant interruption of ads with useless products just like watching QVC! 😛

I really hope they produce more series like this.

One serious note, Kate McKinnon and Emily Lynne are trained TV performers, with TV you can see what is happening without the need for an explanation. Some parts of the performance were hard to follow, eg it was hard to tell who was speaking and exactly where the action was taking place. A future adaptation should take more time to consider the medium and incorporate techniques that were used in radio.
But overall it was excellent.

What a hoot, what a holler!

This is a audio series is honestly laugh-out-loud hilarious! It's like Veep meets GoT, with a sprinkle of Great News. I would strongly recommend listen to it, Kate and Emily truly deliver on their promise to keep you entertained for hours.
