Publisher's Summary

Recent art school graduate Bekah thought she’d hit the jackpot: an unknown relative died, and she inherited a small fortune and a huge house in the mountains of North Carolina.

Trey Howard, the lawyer who handled the estate, is a handsome man in his 20s and they hit it off right away - and soon become more than friends. Bekah expected a pleasant year to get her head together and have a romantic fling. Problem is, the house is full of junk...and siblings she didn’t know she had are willing to kill her for it.

More important, the junk in her new house is magical, she’s surrounded by monsters, and her life seems to be in mortal peril every time she ventures into a new room. As Bekah discovers more about her mysterious benefactor and the magical world he inhabited, she’s realizes that as tough and resourceful as she is, she might just be in over her head...

Heirs of Grace is a tale of family and magic, action and wonder, blending the strong heroine, cheeky humor, and dark fantasy that have become the hallmarks of Tim Pratt’s writing.

Not What I Expected

What a trip! It's like a hidden puzzle, Clue game, with good and bad guys and a bit of snogging. The narration is spot on! Try it. I believe you'll love it.

Really enjoyed it

This isn't my typical read, but I really enjoyed. I wish it was a series because I quite liked the characters.

Really enjoyed this book

This book is a bit like listening to a sitcom. Lots of serious situations not taken very serious, lots of punchlines and jokes. If you don't mind your storytelling done in that fashion you should really enjoy this one. The characters are likeable and dislikeable and it's an interesting take on magic.

Great book. A series would be enjoyable.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Sure. It was fun. Easy reading. Times you needed to be sharp to follow. Other times was pretty fun. *Definitely needs a note about the language though*. My 13 yr old would enjoy this very much but too many f bombs thrown around consistently.

What did you like best about this story?

The real personality of the main character. She made me smile throughout.

Have you listened to any of Leslie Hull’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. This one was good though. Wasn't a distraction from the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

More than anyone bargained for.

Any additional comments?

Another fun read. Most of the time there was no gut clench as I got through the stressful spots. Was easy to root for the main character. & I loved her friends. The brother scene completely weirded me out though.

decent listen

Decent fantasy story, narrator has a few minor issues like making any male with a southern accent sound like he's 65 years old but overall wasn't bad. At least she narrates like a normal person talks and doesn't feel the need to precisely enunciate every single letter of every word like some do. It isn't great literature, but it's an interesting story that moves at a good pace, and that's all I was looking for. My biggest pet peeve is that the main character always referred to her love interest as a "boy," as in "the boy I like" or "the boy I kissed," even though they were both fully adult twenty-something college graduates instead of sixth graders. It just sounded childish. Maybe it was supposed to be her feminist answer to women her age being called "girls" by men; maybe it was some linguistic fad from recent years that I missed (I'm forty-something, not twenty-something). Either way, it was annoying, but not enough to ruin the book.

Was surprised how much I enjoyed this

Don't recall exactly why I picked this up but glad I did! Enjoyed everything about it and did as I see some others have done, checked to see if this was a series as I would have picked any further adventures.

words fail

I don't know what I was expecting when I purchased this, simply that it seemed interesting and was at a discount I think, and found myself enjoying it immensely in so many ways from the phenomenal quit to the stupendous word usage to search verbose and daring descriptions of possibilities, trust me you'll understand when you read it and this is a book not to be missed.

Southern voices

Not all southern people sound like Blanch Devereux, and I would dare to bet that no one in Boone North Carolina sounds like this. Drives me a little crazy.

Felt like it should have been bigger

I really enjoyed the first half or so of this book. The main character was very likeable and determinedly pragmatic and her sidekick/love interest much the same but with all the interesting back story and secondary characters I was expecting a much more intense and finely tuned climax. It was entertaining and had so much more potential than the very blah ending we ended up with. It would have been fine for the first book in a series or as the first part of a much longer novel but as it stands it was surprisingly unsatisfying in the end. I also think a major plot point that would have added another layer to the back story and the character’s history was completely overlooked and was surprised that Becca didn’t voice her curiosity on the maternal half of her parentage more or *at all*. The narration was excellent and I really enjoyed the performance. Overall a nice way to spend a few hours but expect to come away with a simmering frustration if you expect something more than a ‘and then they all lived happily ever after’ when you’ve invested a good slice of time in such a promising and interesting beginning.

Better than I expected

Never judge a book by its cover! Expecting a rather cheesy, superficial cozy story as a bit of light relief. This was actually a rather good story, with interesting characters whose decisions weren't totally head-smackingly dim. Nice.

What made it a stand-out for me was the excellent narration. Shame on me, but I don't always enjoy female narrators who just don't seem to have the vocal range for the characters. Anyhoo, this lady nailed it totally.

No follow-up yet that I can see. Hopefully I won't have to wait tooooo long.
