The publication of Kanyasulkam in 1897 was a major turning point in Telugu literary history. It threw Telugu literature into the epoch of Modernism. The author of this legendary play was Gurajada Apparao. He is broadly considered the father of the Modernist movement in Telugu literature. Kanyasulkam had changed the Telugu literary-scape so radically that it marked a clear demarcation between the literature before and after Kanyasulkam. A comical satire in Social Realist tradition, it is a must-hear for anyone interested in Telugu literature.
