About this listen
The Greatcoats have found the heir to the throne...but now they must keep her alive, against all the odds.
Falcio Val Mond has completed the final task given to him by the late King Paelis: he has found the King's Charoites (well, one at least). But his task isn't over, and now he, Kest and Brasti must protect the girl from those who want her dead.
That would be simple enough, if it weren't for the renegade Knights and legendary Dashini assassins getting in their way - not to mention the Dukes, who are desperate to hold on to their power at any cost; Trin, the merciless daughter of the ruthless Duke of Rijou; and the cruel Duchess of Hervor, who is determined to be Queen of Tristia.
Of course, the fact that the heir to the throne is 13 years old doesn't help, nor the fact that every day brings Falcio closer to dying from the poison running through his veins. And then there is the Greatcoat's Lament....
©2015 Sebastien de Castell (P)2015 Quercus Editions LimitedIts so good that I had already ordered book 3 and 4 as soon as I started it. It has the most awesome characters that i have ever read in fiction. They are charming , deep , complex and memorable. All of them have become like friends to me now.
The plot , world building and the pacing is phenomenal, there is not a single moment when you feel bored. Go ahead and start reading the first book right now. Thank me later. And be prepared for sleepless nights.
Sebastien de Castell!! i am your fan.
Best Fantasy I have read in Years!

But I have one MAJOR complaint with the book: an absolute lack of trigger warnings, and a horrifically detailed triggering scene.
For readers: A massive trigger warning (r*pe, violence) for chapter 39. Feel free to skip it altogether, it doesn't make much difference to the story if you do. I skipped it after the first few minutes.
The narrator does an excellent job, I had to pause the book multiple times to figure out if it was just one person voicing all the different characters. From accents to voices, emotions to paces, the narrator covers them all with brilliant storytelling.
Captivating read. But pl include trigger warnings.
