1970 के दशक के उत्तरार्ध में, उत्तर भारत के एक छोटे-से क़स्बे रामनगर में बिताए गए एक बचपन का वृत्तांत है ‘लपूझन्ना’। नौ-दस साल के बच्चे की निगाह से देखी गई ज़िंदगी अपने इतने सारे देखे-अदेखे रंगों के साथ सामने आती है कि पढ़ने वाला गहरे-मीठे नॉस्टैल्जिया में डूबने-उतराने लगता है। बचपन के निश्चल खेलों, जल्लाद मास्टरों, गुलाबी रिबन पहनने वाली लड़कियों, मेले-ठेलों, पतंगबाज़ी और फ़ुटबॉल के क़िस्सों से भरपूर ‘लपूझन्ना’ भाषा और स्मृति के बीच एक अदृश्य पुल का निर्माण करने की कोशिश है। सबसे ऊपर यह उपन्यास आम आदमी के जीवन और उसकी क्षुद्रता का महिमागान है जिसके बारे में हमारे समय के बड़े कवि संजय चतुर्वेदी कहते हैं—‘रामनगर की इन कथाओं में लपूझन्ना कोई चरित्र नहीं मिलेगा। समाधि लगाकर देखिए तो लपूझन्ना कैवल्य भाव है -

सैर में सैर है छोटा सा एक रामनगर

और टेसन पै टिकस दिल के बराबर हैगा

क़ौम-ए-आदम के लफंटर जो हिंयां रैते हैं

उनके इंसान में इंसान का ग्लैमर हैगा।’

One of the best books of my life, simple story flowing smooth narration and beautifully narrated.
Those of us who had our childhood during or near that period can so easily identify with it.
So nostalgic, I was literally visualising the whole story as if happening before my own eyes.
This book was 'Childhood Revisited' for me.
Highly recommended 👌 👍 👏 💯
