About this listen

One boy, one boat, one tiger....

British comedian, actor and broadcaster Sanjeev Bhaskar, OBE performs this brilliant edition of a work of fiction that is loved by fans around the world. After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, a solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild, blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a 16 year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orangutan - and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger. The scene is set for an extraordinary adventure.

Critic Reviews

"A unique and original story, brilliantly told." (Guardian)
"Pi is bewitching, the tale both nihilistic and naïve, philosophical and playful, deeply moving while always treading the line clear of schmalz." (Independent)
"Every page offers something of tension, humanity, surprise, or even ecstasy." (The Times)

Only because I listened to the audiobook, I could see the layers and deception in Pi’s story and narration. Life of Pi is a survival story with deep metaphorical meaning. It follows the extraordinary journey of a young Indian boy, Pi, who survives 227 days stranded on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean after a shipwreck.

The genius of the novel lies in its ending. While open ending can be potentially frustrating, the novel weave together survival, spirituality, and the power of narrative in a way that challenges readers’ perceptions rather than confusing the readers.

I really enjoyed going through several theories of what exactly happened on the boat and which story is true. Honestly I still don’t know the truth; but while finding the meaning of hidden metaphors, I received answers to the faith, survival, and the human nature.

A must-read that will stay with you long after the last page.

Simply superb. Martel hits the bulls eye with incredible easiness. Captivating story. I am yet to see the film, but every one says the film is nothing in front of the story.....

Nothing in particular
