Publisher's Summary

This one.

Nate doesn’t want to listen. He’s between missions and just wants to relax, not to travel hundreds of miles and hunt for the driver of the car that hit someone he doesn’t even know.

But ignoring the call is not an option.

This one.

What Nate had hoped would be a simple mission turns into something much more sinister, when he discovers a wide-reaching evil, festering in a small Northern California town. To confront it, he will need all the skills he’s learned working in the shadow world.

Fake Man!

this was a total waste of 8 hrs of my time. Poor back story of the main character. lack of real action, too much of a goody two shoes, his Asian female helper was unrealistically rude. Never divulged his real job. Did I mention a waste of $14?

Another Great Read

I "discovered Brett Battles" via a promotion on Audible. I loved the book straight away and set out to catch up on all the others. None of them have disappointed. This one, was a little different as it centred on the normal hero's sidekick. I loved it and would thoroughly recommend it.

Nate takes the road less traveled..

This is a wonderful spinoff from Brett Battles's Jonathan Quinn series. The protagonist in this new series is Jonathan's partner Nate. With the start of this book we find Nate disabling and binding a group of men who have been robbing quick mart stores. He's not getting paid for this, he's a vigilante. Who tells him who needs defending ? His murdered girlfriend Liz of course. He knows when he hears her it's just his subconscious. He thinks. Nate still has his day job but Liz sends him on a road trip. A teenage girl has been hit by a car. Everyone says it's an accident. Liz "tells " Nate that it's not. His mission requires using all his skills and toys and a few friends he picked up while working with Quinn. Nate uncovers many secrets and too many wealthy men willing to take advantage of young women desperate for money. Lots of internal thought processes and intricate planning. Zach Villa does an excellent job narrating. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. If you found this review helpful please indicate so. Thank You.

AWESOME! AWESOME!

This was one of the best and most entertaining books I have ever listened to. The main character is one I got to know and like easily. Wonderful story, and I hope more are written in this series. The narrator was beyond awesome: his voices were so believable. I will look for other books narrated by him. GET THIS BOOK!

Great potential

First and foremost I am a fan of Mr. Battles have all he has written and purchased for just that reason. That said; IF this is going to develop into a series the potential is great. It was a little slow and a touch meandering though I believe Brett is on the right track. The BIGGEST failure here, for me, was the narrator. If this does develop into a series which I hope it will continuing on with this person will cause me second thoughts on the next purchase.

Cool Story

This is a cool story, it almost made me feel like I was listening to a one man play vs a novel. The narrator did a good job... Also, it's a nice break from the overly graphic novels...

Just Enough

Just enough tech stuff to make the story interesting. Just enough super hero stuff so we can cheer for the good guy. Just enough softhearted stuff to make the hero lovable. Just enough plot twists to keep us from predicting what comes next.

Worth the credit!

I almost didn't get this book because of some negative reviews about the narrator -- thank goodness I did get it! I thought the narration was great and I am glad it had a different narrator than the Quinn novels. The narrator's voice fit the main character very well. I liked the vigilante aspect of the character and will get the sequel.

Outstanding!

Brett Battles is another author who is consistently superb. This is his first novel with Jonathan Quinn's partner Nate as the lead character. Nate continues to grieve the death of his girlfriend Liz (who was also Quinn's sister). But in his mind she is still with him and speaks to him gives him assignments to right specific wrongs. Nate's relationship with Quinn remains rocky due to a disagreement concerning how to deal with Liz's killer. NIGHT MAN is just the type of outstanding novel that make Battles a must-read author. Zach Villa's narration is stellar.

Great book! Totally awesome narration..

Except for it being written in the first person, which I hated, I loved this entire book. BUT I think that was because of the narrator. It was all about Nate, who has a day job, but his nighttime job is working at his hobby; taking care of bad guys. First a gang of robbers then out of town to take care of solving the case of a 17-year-old girl who was run down in the streets. And what a problem it turned out to be, involving congressmen and senators and drugs and under-aged girls. The best part was his DEAD girlfriend always whispering to him, and Jar his computer genius that lives eight-thousand miles away. Together they did amazing things. No romance and the F-bomb was used 1 time, which was a bummer as far as I'm concerned. All those bad guys, and a bunch of college boys and that F-bomb was only used once. In real life THAT would never happen. I like to keep it real when I read this kind of book. As to the narration: Zach Villa was absolutely phenomenal. Not only his male and female voices but his way of reading. He actually snorted when it was called for and, OMG, he had some of the best sarcastic lines I’ve ever heard. I had to laugh more than once. I will definitely check to see what else he’s narrated.
