Publisher's Summary

No calculator? No problem! Whether a listener is prepping for a standardized test or just trying to figure out the check, mathematician Dr. Arthur Benjamin will teach listeners the fundamentals of mental addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. From there, listeners will turn to the art of "guess-timation" for problems that don’t require an exact answer. Listeners will learn:

  • Tricks and techniques to arrive at answers for large problems listeners can’t do in their heads.
  • How to effectively memorize important digits, such as phone numbers, credit card pins, or the dreaded numerical call-in conference passcode.

  • Little-known math techniques, including over-subtraction and the cashier’s method.

  • Mastery multiplication tables through 20 and multiply a pair of 2-digit numbers.

  • How to think of numbers from left to right and hear the numbers without the need to visualize anything.

  • Tricks for adding and subtracting numbers as high as 4-digits and multiplying 2-digit numbers—without a calculator.

  • How to rely heavily on mental estimation and tricks for converting fractions and decimals.

With Professor Benjamin’s engaging, fun-filled lessons, listeners soon find themselves amazing other people and, perhaps more important, themselves. Examples included in the lessons use real-world applications that apply to shopping, banking, tipping, cooking, gaming, gambling, and sports statistics. The skills learned in No Calculator? No Problem!: Mastering Mental Math will teach listeners the tools necessary to excel in school, personal finance, work, and life. Learn to allocate spending, manage time, and master life like a math whiz.

Fun to listen to!

I love numbers and love playing with them. This audiobook teaches how to do mental math with almost no work. I listened to it in my car and was able to understand and learn what Art Benjamin explained. I recommend it for people who think that numbers are difficult to deal with and also for others who like me, want to have fun doing calculations without the use of a calculator. There are fun little tricks to do difficult calculations like 3 digit by 3 digit additions, multiplications and divisions. The last chapter is a lot of fun; Art teaches how to do simple "tricks" using numbers. I wish he would show more of those!

Very easy to listen to and a lot of fun.

Wow- Game Changer

This audiobook is perfect. In the past, I actually tried to watch a video or read a book by this author, but he’s right - an audiobook is the best format so you can hear the numbers. I thought I was good at mental math, and he raised my confidence and abilities tremendously. Thanks Art Benjamin and Audible!

Easier math.

At the moment I am only through the first chapter, but I have already picked up immensely helpful tips. I am one of those people who is very slow with math, and It feels miraculous to be able to calculate bigger numbers in my head with just a couple of tricks!

You'll win a LOT of bar bets.. free beer! :)

This has been one of the most amazing audio books I've listened to! Art is energetic and funny, and he constantly reminds you that the audio book is short because you can PAUSE and do the math before he tells you the answer and works through the problem. I have studied vedic math and managed to get lost; this unforgettable tome has enlightened me and won me an awful lot of bets based on "stupid human tricks" with math. Note, I'm sure the author doesn't approve of using his work to earn free beer, but it's one heck of a side benefit. :)

Really great narration

This is narrated very well. Honestly, I am terrible at match. Terrible. This book was a little too advanced for me, and I will return to it later on. But it's a solid book, well put together and well-narrated. I recommend it for someone wanting to hear some great ideas about mental math while driving to work or walking around. It will give you a lot to think about.

A great course from a truly exceptional teacher

Highly recommend. The enthusiasm that Art has for Math is infectious and this book is gold dust. The tips on the 9 times table were easy enough for my 6 year old grandson to learn. Plenty of tips and challenges. Great for everyone. Take a bow Arthur T. Benjamin.
