Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Featuring an exclusive bonus interview between the author, Philip Pullman, and His Dark Materials star, Ruth Wilson.
Now a major BBC series.
Without this child, we shall all die.
Lyra Belacqua lives half-wild and carefree among the scholars of Jordan College, with her daemon, Pantalaimon, always by her side.
But the arrival of her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, draws her to the heart of a terrible struggle - a struggle born of stolen children, witch clans and armoured bears.
As she hurtles towards danger in the cold far North, Lyra never suspects the shocking truth: she alone is destined to win, or to lose, the biggest battle imaginable.
Read by Philip Pullman and a full cast of narrators.
Critic Reviews
"Read by Pullman himself and a full cast including Julian Glover and Stephen Thorne, this is glorious listening." (Sunday Express)

Immersive and fun
The story is truly captivating. From well written characters with eccentric personalities to vivid backdrops in a world as mysterious as the plot, Pullman had me on every sentence.
One of the all-time best fantasies in my books.

Wonderful
I’ve been a fan of the Northern Lights Trilogy for some years now, having read them several times over. I’ve also devoured the television series, which although in my opinion is no where near as good as the books was nevertheless enjoyable, and now have listened to the first audiobook in the series. It lives up to expectation, with the combination of a cast for the characters and Philip Pullman himself narrating, it works really well. Throughly enjoyable listen! I’d highly recommend.

Spoilers in Bonus Interview
There is a bonus interview at the end which I assume is nice for anyone who's already read the books, but I had to turn it off as it started discussing things beyond the first book. This should be moved to a later audiobook, or prefaced with a spoiler alert.
As for the book itself, very imaginative and excellently voiced

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE END INTERVIEW
Amazing book amazing story, but please be careful! at the end of the audiobook there is an interview with Phillip Pullman and Ruth Wilson, and the first question gives away spoilers from the 3rd book the Amber Spyglass. I couldn't believe it! So I found out the ending of the whole trilogy. Please skip the interview if you haven't read the other books!

Brilliant story ruined by poor narration
I loved this series as a read, and loved the narration of the later books (Belle Sauvage and Secret Commonwealth) but the narration of the initial trilogy is very poor, it is rushed and expressionless and the acting cast sound almost like caricatures of the characters. We listen to audio books on long car journeys and having enjoyed these books myself was looking forward to introducing them to to the kids but will be reading them the rest of the trilogy rather than listening to it.

Great story, terrible sound engineering
The story is intriguing and the universe is definitely one, I would love to continue reading about.
However!!! This audio version is terrible! Not so much because of the voice actors - most of them do a good job and none of them are actually bad.
But the sound engineering! Oh, boy is it bad...
More or less each voice actor have a different sound quality, ranging from good studio quality to "recorded on a phone in a public restroom"-bad.
Add to that an editor, who does not understand how conversations work, as characters have barely any pause between them, when in a dialogue.
These issues made it quite a slog to get through this otherwise great story, and has made me wary to buy the sequels.

Narration
Sorry but the narration was awful I couldn't focus on the story, I couldn't stand anywhere past the first chapter. was really recommended this book, bit I wish I had listened to the sample before I spent money on it. Lesson learned 😔

Not the best narration
I did not like the narration. It was too ‘pantomime’ for my liking. Also, the story…. People have raved about this book. I’m honestly not sure why.

love it.
I absolutely loved having a full cast. I was abit hesitant at first as a narrator can make or break an audio book but this was fantastic.
Now the story, I decided to give this a go as I was curious upon thinking of the movie what happened after. So like any curious person I took to the books, and well I kinda knew what to expect after the movie, I did watch it 10 years or so ago but the next 2 books, I had no idea about and absolutely LOVED IT. what an enchanting world. I definitely reccomend getting lost in these worlds.
