Publisher's Summary

Don't get mean, get even.... One million dollars - that's what Harvey Metcalfe, lifelong king of shady deals, has pulled off with empty promises of an oil bonanza and instant riches. Overnight, four men - the heir to an earldom, a Harley Street doctor, a Bond Street art dealer and an Oxford don - find themselves penniless. But this time Harvey has swindled the wrong men. They band together and shadow him from the casinos of Monte Carlo to the high-stakes windows at Ascot and the hallowed lawns of Oxford. Their plan is simple: to sting the crook for exactly what they lost - not a penny more, not a penny less.

The equation

Initially, it was boring. Later, when the plot picked up, full credit.
Equation is solved.

Not Jeremy’s best

Story line was a bit weak I thought, particularly after Kane and Able, Clifton Chronicles and the Prison Diaries.

Great. Gripping.

Difficult to stop listening to until the suspense unfolds. Intelligent script. The voice over adds to the fun.

Narrative

John Lee is a very talented narrator, but there were times when he could have spoken a little slower, particularly in the early chapters as the story and characters were being outlined.

A thoroughly good read.

What did you like most about Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less?

A really good gripping story. I enjoyed as much as I did the first time I read it in the mid 70s. It's one of those"old-fashioned" stories with a really bad baddie. I loved the twist in the tale at the end, too.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less?

The last bit! But I won't spoil it!

Good story. Narrated very well

The story was good and I really enoyed the banter between the main four characters.

Excellent

This must be one of the best Jeffrey Archer books...enjoyed every minute of it. I wanted it to end, but didn't, if you know what I mean.
Wanted to know what happened ! Now I have to find another excellent book!

Nowhere near as good as Kane & Abel. Dated

Seemed like a good read when it was published, but that was a long time ago and the characterisation and language has dated badly. The reader is also nowhere near as good as in some other Archer books. Kane & Abel is excellent, but this is underwhelming and hasn't stood the test of time

The narration put me off.

I love a Jeffrey Archer novel but this one, unfortunately I went for the audible version and the narration I found fast and of a monotone. There was little dialogue in the first 2 hours so the narrator was unable to show much of his talent. I rarely give up on a book but alas this one had to be returned.

I read this 25 years ago & it was hilarious. Had high hopes with this.
