Publisher's Summary

Since the original publication of Nudge more than a decade ago, the title has entered the vocabulary of businesspeople, policy makers, engaged citizens, and consumers everywhere. The book has given rise to more than 200 "nudge units" in governments around the world and countless groups of behavioral scientists in every part of the economy. It has taught us how to use thoughtful "choice architecture" - a concept the authors invented - to help us make better decisions for ourselves, our families, and our society.

Now, the authors have rewritten the book from cover to cover, making use of their experiences in and out of government over the past dozen years as well as an explosion of new research in numerous academic disciplines. To commit themselves to never undertaking this daunting task again, they are calling this the "final edition". It offers a wealth of new insights, for both its avowed fans and newcomers to the field, about a wide variety of issues that we face in our daily lives - COVID-19, health, personal finance, retirement savings, credit card debt, home mortgages, medical care, organ donation, climate change, and "sludge" (paperwork and other nuisances we don't want and that keep us from getting what we do want) - all while honoring one of the cardinal rules of nudging: make it fun!

Decent read.

I've called it decent and not very good only because I've read quite a few books on Behavorial economics. The authors' stand on libertarian paternalism is quite consistent and I don't understand why any libertarian would have any issues with the concept of Nudge. Trying to influence people to do something without restricting their choice in any ways isn't really impeding individual freedom and it isn't in any conflict with the principles of Libertarianism.

I'd give a special mention to the chapter on Organ donation. That was quite an eye opener for me.

I have one issue with the book though. The book is too US centric and readers outside of the US might have trouble relating to the such issues as the US healthcare or pension system.

Fantastic book, but where is the PDF

This is a great book and should be read more than once. Between Audible and the publisher, they have screwed over the reader by not providing the reference PDF.

Insightful and engaging

"Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness" by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein is an insightful and engaging book that offers a fresh perspective on how people make choices and how policymakers can influence those choices to promote better outcomes.

Thaler and Sunstein argue that people are not always rational decision-makers and are often subject to cognitive biases and heuristics that can lead to suboptimal decisions. However, they also argue that policymakers can use gentle nudges, or "choice architecture," to help people make better choices without restricting their freedom of choice.

The authors provide numerous examples of nudges from various domains, such as retirement savings, organ donation, and energy consumption, and show how they have been successful in promoting positive outcomes. They also discuss the ethical implications of nudges and address potential objections to the use of nudges.

Overall, "Nudge" is a well-written and thought-provoking book that offers practical insights into how policymakers can improve decision-making without resorting to heavy-handed regulations. Thaler and Sunstein's ideas have been widely adopted in both public and private sectors, making this book a must-read for anyone interested in understanding human behavior and policy-making.

very well written . easy to understand.

Topics like Green energy were also addressed which possibly require more than a nudge .
