About this listen

After being dumped on her 21st birthday, Bailey James rebounds right into the arms of her ex’s biggest competition...

Chase Carter: antagonizer, womanizer, and infamous left winger for her college’s rival team.

Following a string of scandals and substandard grades, Chase is on thin ice with his teammates and tyrannical coach. The last thing he needs is to have his focus and loyalty called into question by fraternizing with his team’s #1 competition, but a beautiful stranger who throws herself at him one night is too tempting to pass up...until she throws up on his shoes.

Caught in the midst of a bitter rivalry that extends far beyond the arena, Chase and Bailey are on opposite sides of the bench. He’s worked his entire life to secure a future in the NHL. She’s tagged along while her brother has done the same. Fraternizing with the enemy is definitely out of the question, but what if the enemy is impossible to resist?

Offside is a steamy new adult college romance. It is book one of the Rules Of The Game series but can be listened to as a complete standalone.

If you love a cocky hockey hero, forbidden romance, and heart-fluttering, heat-filled moments, Offside by Avery Keelen is right up your alley!

This was such a fun listen. A hot, handsome bad boy who’s absolutely obsessed with his girl? That alone makes any sports romance a win for me! Offside was my first Avery Keelen book, and it definitely didn’t disappoint.

Here’s what made this story work for me:
✔️ Chase and Bailey – Both were written really well, and it was so easy to fall in love with their dynamic. They were likable, relatable, and genuinely mature about their relationship, which felt like such a refreshing dream.
✔️ The plot – It had a great flow, and the emotional maturity between Chase and Bailey really stood out.
✔️ Supporting characters – From Bailey’s new best friend (who was just amazing!) to all of Chase’s teammates, the side characters added so much life to the story.
✔️ The spice – Oh my god, the steam level was so good! The scenes were written perfectly and kept the chemistry sizzling.

❌ Now, onto the reason I knocked off a star: the length.
The book felt way too long. Honestly, the story could have wrapped up much earlier without losing any of its impact. After a point, the dragging really started to bother me, and I think that’s why it took me longer than usual to get through the audiobook.

All in all, Offside is a pretty solid sports romance that I genuinely enjoyed!
Despite the pacing issues, the characters and chemistry kept me hooked—and that’s exactly why I’m still sticking with a four-star rating.
