Warm and delightfully festive, this charming and long forgotten holiday classic was inspired, in part, by Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and other celebrations of old-time Yule. Splendid suppers, rural churches, cheerful dances, and hearty spirits imbue this short novel with the magic of the season.

Narrator is excellent!
Washington Irving is my favorite of the classic American writers. His "Old Christmas" is one of my favorite pieces, although it was originally part of a much larger work. Even though his early writing predated Charles Dickens' but just a few years, I think of him as the American Dickens. With his ability to paint vivid scenes with his words, the limit of his artistry is limited only by the reader's imagination. This work is made all the better by the narrator's soft, compassionate voice which brings 200 year old Christmas traditions to life.
