Publisher's Summary

A public plaza in Indiana. Five people are killed in cold blood, shot through the head. But he leaves a perfect trail of evidence behind him, and soon the local police chief tracks him down. After his arrest, the shooter's only words are, 'Get Jack Reacher for me.' What could possibly connect this psychopath and the wandering dropout ex-army cop?

Critics call Lee Child's thriller series 'addictive', so here is our annual, much-longed for, Reacher fix.

Hero for the times

Suspense all the way and a satisfying conclusion. Although a little unbelievable, in that Reacher always wins, it is the path to that victory that ultimately draws in the reader/listener. You want to know how he works things out, why he becomes involved... Reacher is, basically, a very likeable character, a 'goodie'. And Jeff Harding is a great listen.

A good recipe for success

Child does it so well. Sneaks in a twist or two, a couple of females and of course some baddies to defeat with his bare hands.

Great escapist story telling

Lee Child's "Jack Reacher"action thrillers tend to be somewhat formulaic, but never fail to be gripping and entertaining. Fans of the series will not be disappoined with this story. New readers can jump into the series at any point since back story is not too important.
Jeff Harding is an excellent reader, although his attempts at a Russian accent in parts of this book are a little odd!

Reacher, not Cruise

Would you listen to One Shot again? Why?

Jack Reacher 6 feet 5 inches and 220 pounds. Tom Cruise does not fit the bill. An excellent book that had be captivated to the end.

Superlative!

We learn a little more about what makes Reacher tick.
He is a truly fascinating character - violent yet tender, ruthless yet considerate and very, very clever.
I look forward, with relish, to his next adenture.

Very well read Reacher book

I see that one reviewer does not like the Lee Child/Reacher style of speech or writing. It's a question of taste; I think it underlines Reacher's detached emotional position very well. The plots are economical in that every observation of Reacher's comes in useful for the plot at some stage. Of course, there are many common elements between the books. They are hardly great literature but IMO they work very well. It is astonishing that Lee Child is English.

I am very fussy about my narrators and think Jeff Harding is very good. All the characters have their own voices, women as well as men. Everything about the delivery suits the story. It's a really professional performance. I think reading audiobooks sorts out the real actors from the rest.

Absolutely brilliant - Classic Reacher

This was the first Jack Reacher novel I heard and I have now listened again and it's just as good. The plot is as enthralling as all Lee Childs work. Reacher is only after one thing the truth! even if he cant stand the guy he's helping the truth is more important. You will be kept guessing right to the end but with Lee Child that is never frustrating just enthralling.

If you are a Jack Reacher fan you will love it. If you haven't heard a Jack Reacher story yet this is a great introduction, you will definitely download another!

Loved it - I don't seem to get sick of Reacher

Would you listen to One Shot again? Why?

Yes - maybe not for a bit though.

What was one of the most memorable moments of One Shot?

The stories about the Russian characters in the gulag scared me! Was hoping there wouldn't be too much detail!

What does Jeff Harding bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The books are also great to read. What I enjoy the most is the drama JH is able to convey in the reading of the book.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It mostly makes me laugh, hold my breath and then breath a sigh of relief. Bit of a roller coaster the Jack Reacher books in terms of emotions!!

I love Reacher you however random music needs to be sorted

Story: amazing. Performance: perfect. The random music interrupting the story every five chapters or so: unacceptable. Come on guys listen to your product before you put it out. It’s clearly a mistake but come on!

I say this with the best of intentions. I love you guys usually I’m just disappointed it’s not up to your usual standard.

great story spoiled by editing

good story, well performed by Jeff harding. spoiled by the bizarre decision to insert little musical breaks, seemingly at random, on at least one occasion in mid sentence.

Awesome book!

I've read this book before and its just as gripping as the first time, the blockbuster film represents the book well other than Tom Cruise trying to be a 6 foot 8 man when hes 4 ft something!

What I think, which isn't important.

The musical brakes at the high points was annoying, but even with that the story was amazing.

Annoying add break style audible music

I love the story line and the performance but audible music cutting in like an add break every so often is really off putting.

Great story

Loved the story and the narration is amazing as always, but hated the music between most chapters. It really takes you out of the story and was jarring. This wasn’t done in the other Jack Reacher stories I’ve listened to so far.

I expect noting less from Reacher

I tripped over the Jack Reacher character prior to the movie. And although Tom Cruise can't really fill Jack reachers boots, purely on size along, he did a good job portraying Reacher in the first movie that was based on this book. But the Reacher character and this story cannot be fully captured in 2 hours and the book is a far more compelling read than the movie. So I encourage all to listen to the book prior to watching the movie. Enjoy both and note the differences.

Jeff Harding is an interesting Narrator. I'm not sure if he would be suited to any type of book, but he has Reacher and the other characters nailed in the book. Just Brilliant.

Weird suspense music?

Amazing storytelling, amazing narration- if you got this far in the series, and don’t like the story- that is 100% your own fault. The weird thing is that there is suspense music thrown in to the middle of a paragraph for no discernible reason. Not the authors fault, nor the narrators. Very weird editing. Not a deal breaker though.

First Jack Reacher film

If only Tom Cruise had used an actor that meet the guy in Lee Child's book's instead of himself in n it he lead he could have had a ongoing hero like James Bond.

Not a fan of the musical interlude between each chapter.

As always Jeff Harding does a cracking job with there voices.
