Fr. Justin Slaughter Doty: "Original Sin for the Orthodox Church explores the unified patristic witness to the doctrine of original sin in both the Orthodox East and West. In this meticulously researched book, Michael Witcoff skillfully demonstrates the harmony among Orthodox saints and elders who have consistently taught and defended this crucial dogma. In my opinion, no other book currently available to an English-speaking audience so effectively presents the theology of St. Augustine of Hippo in alignment with Holy Scripture, the Ecumenical Councils, the Holy Fathers of both East and West, and modern saints and elders such as St. Nektarios, St. Justin Popović, St. Dumitru Stăniloae, Elder Aimilianos, Philaret of New York, and many more.I deeply appreciate Michael Witcoff’s work and hope readers will gain a richer understanding of the universal Orthodox witness to original sin through this text. His attention to detail, especially with regard to the Latin teaching of Culpa vs Reatus, should be commended. This book is particularly timely in an era when confusion about the fall of mankind abounds. Witcoff urges readers to resist modernist tendencies that deviate from patristic theology and to seek refuge in the unbroken dogmatic teaching of the Orthodox faith."©2025 Michael Witcoff (P)2026 Jason E.
