Nhat Hanh brings his signature clarity, compassion and humour to the thorny question of how to love and distils one of our strongest emotions down to four essentials: you can only love another when you feel true love for yourself; love is understanding; understanding brings compassion; and deep listening and loving speech are key ways of showing our love.

Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children - and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses.

Publisher's Summary
In the rush of modern life, we tend to lose touch with the peace that is available in each moment. World-renowned Zen master, spiritual leader, and author Thich Nhat Hanh shows us how to make positive use of the situations that usually pressure and antagonize us. A ringing telephone can be a signal to call us back to our true selves. Dirty dishes, red lights, and traffic jams are spiritual friends on the path to "mindfulness" - the process of keeping our consciousness alive to our present experience and reality. The most profound satisfactions, the deepest feelings of joy and completeness lie as close at hand as our next aware breath and the smile we can form right now.
Lucidly and beautifully written, Peace Is Every Step contains commentaries, meditations, personal anecdotes, and stories from Nhat Hanh's experiences as a peace activist, teacher, and community leader. It begins where the listener already is - in the kitchen, office, driving a car, walking - and shows how deep meditative presence is available now. Nhat Hanh provides exercises to increase our awareness of our own body and mind through conscious breathing, which can bring immediate joy and peace. Nhat Hanh also shows how to be aware of relationships with others and of the world around us, its beauty and also its pollution and injustices.
The deceptively simple practices of Peace Is Every Step encourage listeners to work for peace in the world as they continue to work on sustaining inner peace by turning the "mindless" into the mindful.

Great approach to mindfulness
Would you consider the audio edition of Peace Is Every Step to be better than the print version?
I actually think this would be a great book to have in print. Everything is broken into small sections, so I could see myself bookmarking various pages, highlighting things, and then referring back to them often
What was one of the most memorable moments of Peace Is Every Step?
Overall I liked how the book was formatted. Small mini paragraphs that focused on mindfulness in various aspects of everyday life
Which scene was your favorite?
I really enjoyed the section where he talked about 'interbeing' and how everything is related to everything else
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
N/A
Any additional comments?
This is a book I can see myself going back to many times in the future. Full of great life advice, tidbits of wisdom, learned knowledge, and general advice on living a more mindful existence and being a better person. Great for people who are just becoming interested in mindfulness and meditation as well as for people more familiar with the topic. A must have addition to anyone's library

Honestly I was expecting more
What disappointed you about Peace Is Every Step?
This is not a bad book, if you never read anything about meditation it's a great way to start but I would definitely not rate it 5 stars as most people did. The book could have been shortened quite a bit (and it's already short). I think the narrator did a good job and it's not his fault if the book could have had a richer content. I think it's not very helpful when people rate everything 5 stars and in this case the average rating of the book in my opinion is exaggerated
Would you ever listen to anything by Thich Nhat Hanh again?
no
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disappointment, but I had high expectations
