Un gentile, cioè un non ebreo, domanda a un ebreo: "Perché voi ebrei rispondete sempre a una domanda con una domanda?" E l'ebreo: "E perché no?" Perché questa storiella per me è estremamente importante? Perché muove una questione centrale nell'ebraismo: la domanda. La domanda è una delle basi che sostengono la cultura e il pensiero ebraici. Essere umano è colui che sa porre domande, non chi dà risposte. Perché chi pone domande apre alla produzione di senso, apre al futuro, dà alle generazioni a venire la possibilità di intervenire, di esistere. Perché la domanda è quella che apre la questione, sollecita una risposta anche su questioni già apparentemente chiuse: si trova sempre una nuova domanda.
