Es war eine sehr dunkle Nacht, als die alte Frau in ihrer Kammer im Bett lag und die Stunden zählte. Solche dunklen Nächte sind schlimm für die Menschen, die alt und einsam und müde geworden sind. Das bunte Leben ist eingeschlafen, und nur die Stunden schlagen aus weiter Ferne. Einer dieser Stunden wird wohl bald meine letzte sein, dachte die alte Frau, denn ich bin sehr einsam und müde.
