Der Hauptteil, der auch als Gastmahl des Trimalchio bekannt ist, schildert eine wichtigtuerische Gesellschaft aus Neureichen, die sich mit geschmacklosen Scherzen und absurder Scheinbildung einem skurrilen Gelage hingibt. Als Höhepunkt inszeniert der Gastgeber Trimalchio sein eigenes Begräbnis. Der Lärm ruft die Feuerwehr herbei, die mit Äxten und Wassergüssen dem Mahl ein Ende bereitet.
