Improving the performance of your employees involves one of the hardest challenges in the known universe: changing the way they think. In constant demand as a coach, speaker, and consultant to companies around the world, David Rock has proven that the secret to leading people (and living and working with them) is found in the space between their ears. ""If people are being paid to think,"" he writes, ""isn't it time the business world found out what the thing doing the work, the brain, is all about?"" Supported by the latest groundbreaking research, Quiet Leadership provides a brain-based approach that will help busy leaders, executives, and managers improve their own and their colleagues' performance. This is the book review for Quiet Leadership by David Rock. I have read multiple coaching books, so I am fairly familiar with the subject of using thoughtful questions and allowing answers to emerge from others rather than be a provider of solutions.

When I started this audiobook, somehow I didn't get it and put it away. But one day on a ride when there was lot of traffic. I listened this. My initial perceptions were so wrong about this book because I realized that this book requires focus and a lot of reflection pauses which I had on this day. Do not expect or listen to this when you mind wanders and you are in need of a casual listening title.

David Rock is a genius, and his philosophy to appeal and uncover thought patterns would then lead to inspiration and change in actions is elucidated nicely in the book. With examples, his CREATE framework of how to bring the best in people is well structured in the book.

As you progress in this book, you will yourself feel that there are subtle changes in the way you talk with people immediately. Initially, you may not be using more of the questions; you may not be making people think as much the book tell you; but your own thought process would significantly improve in terms of how you are approaching a person, a problem. You will notice those changes on your own.

I highly recommended the book, and this is my third title in this year. I am re-listening to this all over again to just internalize the questions in this book. This is a playbook guide for a leader who wishes to see others grow, or people look to you to unlock their potential. Applying this book principles and questions would make people think and spur them into action without forcing your hand in any of these situations.

For a start, practice starting your conversation with 3 questions in immediate succession. "Hi, What is on your mind?" then "<empathize their answer>" and ask "How long have you been thinking about it?" followed by "<empathize their answer> with I am curious to know the thought process here. Can you share some details?" You may like this type of conversation journey and knew what was missing all along.

A book that can transform others lives and yours
