Early 11 Century CE. King Rājarāja Chōḷa-I is in the process of building a monumental temple for Lord Shiva at his capital city, Thanjāvūr in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, deep in the recesses of Chēra forests (modern Kerala), an old enemy is hatching a sinister conspiracy against the king to settle some scores. Destiny would choose an unlikely but committed Chōḷa war veteran, Ambalavānar, to stand against this deadly adversaries who would stop at nothing - to execute their plans. Set in a highly authentic historical tone and supported by extensive archaeological and inscriptional evidence, Rājakēsari is a riveting historical tale that brings to life, the erstwhile Chōḷa era with all its pomp, grandeur and glory.
